Washington was actually born on February 11, but, in 1750, Great Britain changed from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar, and eleven days were omitted from the month of September 1752. To compensate for this omission, eleven days were added to the remaining dates. Washinton's birthday then changed from February 11 to February 22.
